Knowledge Bento

This is a pop up installation located in one of the Taipei metro station. The goal was to create a temparary library in the metro station to encourage people to read at the same time giving away free books that were made too much by the publishers.

Inspired by the bento box that are commonly seen here. Reading a book is like eating a bento as a knowledge absortion. we want to wrap the books in bento boxes and place them in the cheapest IKEA basket, so it’s almost like the bento vendor on the street, carrying basket selling bentos.

In the beginning, the basket was just an inspiration from the vendor. Surprisingly, it turned out visually stunning with the penetrating structure of the baskets. they were built very bulky but seemed very light and you can clearly see the books and the bentos inside. The best thing was, we sold all the 200 IKEA baskets, which are nearly new after a month of the pop up. So the total cost was unbelievably low.
